Martin Petruľák specialises in insurance, insurance sector regulation and distribution of financial products, consumer protection, and personal data protection.

In the field of insurance, Martin focuses on private law regulation of insurance, insurance sector regulation issues, licensing procedures, supervisions and penalty proceedings, rules for the creation of insurance products, cross-border insurance activities, implementation projects in the field of regulatory requirements, and legal advice in the resolution of complicated insurance claims.

In the field of distribution of financial products, he focuses on client contact obligations, setting up distribution processes including digitalised distribution solutions, assessing remuneration schemes, identifying and managing conflicts of interest.

In the field of consumer protection, Martin deals in detail with the issue of unfair contract terms and unfair commercial practices, issues of transparency of contractual documentation and the preparation of pre-contractual information documents and standardised contractual documentation.

Prior to joining HAVEL & PARTNERS in 2022 he worked for 5 years in a specialised Slovak law firm, where he provided legal advice to leading insurance companies, and before that for more than 12 years in Slovak insurance companies, in Wüstenrot poisťovňa and Poštová poisťovňa, where he worked, inter alia, as head of the legal department and later as a member of the board of directors. For four years Martin held the position of Chairman of the Legislative Section of the Slovak Association of Insurance Companies.

Martin is a member of the author’s team of the Large Commentary on the Civil Code, in the framework of which he participated in the commentary on the provisions on insurance contract, a co-author of a specialised monograph on insurance contracts and the author of a number of professional articles and contributions in the field of insurance. In 2016, the Slovak Association of Insurance Companies awarded him the JUDr. František Prochotský award for author’s professional and popularization activities in the insurance sector.
