The risks associated with incorrect approach may be severe, in particular if the whistleblower, for example due to fear of retaliation, prefers to report their concern directly to a ministry, or worse, to the media. In such case, the organisation typically loses control over internal investigation and, apart from legal implications, it will also face reputational risks.
