International arbitration and protection of investments

We provide a full spectrum of legal services covering international arbitration and the protection of foreign investments. As the largest law firm in the Czech Republic, we bring together specialists to advise on all matters of commercial or investment arbitration. The firm’s International Arbitration & Foreign Investment Protection team consists of ten lawyers, including three partners. It is one of the largest specialised teams of its kind in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.        

The team advises clients from among private individuals, government and other public bodies, on international disputes such as construction, transport, real estate development, oil & energy, telecommunications, banking & finance, and insurance. Apart from acting as counsel in arbitration, we assist clients at all stages of the dispute resolution process, including ensuring protection of foreign investments, drafting tailor-made arbitration clauses, pre-trial consultations, proceedings to reverse arbitration awards, out-of-court settlements, and the recognition and enforcement of arbitration awards.    

We regularly act as counsel in both institutional and ad hoc arbitrations conducted under the ICC, LCIA, SCC, UNCITRAL, VIAC or Swiss Rules. As lead counsel, we profit from our reliable network of local counsel which enables us to provide legal services in any country, jurisdiction and language. Due to our strong presence in the central European region, we are often sought to act as local counsel for leading international law firms in arbitrations with Czech or Slovak dimensions.  

Our senior lawyers also sit as arbitrators both under established international arbitration rules, such as the ICC Rules, and leading arbitration rules applicable in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.   

In representing clients in disputes our lawyers work closely with our other specialised practice groups that are recognised as leading experts by virtually all prestigious international publications, including PLC Cross-border, European Legal 500, and Chambers Global. Such cooperation not only bolsters our expertise on substantive law in cases where we act as counsel, but also allows our lawyers to serve as party- or tribunal-appointed experts in international arbitrations involving specific issues of law.    

Our lawyers participate in the activities of professional associations and permanent arbitration courts, such as the ICC Czech Republic, the Arbitration Court with the Economic Chamber of the Czech Republic and the Agricultural Chamber of the Czech Republic, and the Exchange Court of Arbitration with the Prague Stock Exchange.
